The Battle of Edson's Ridge between Allied and Japanese forces, also known as the Battle of Bloody Ridge, took place on 12-14 September 1942. The allied forces (mainly American Marines) were defending the Henderson airfield nearby. The Japanese were defeated and there were heavy casualties on both sides.
