shell case from HMS Hood
Shell case from the training rifle fitted to the 15 inch guns of HMS Hood. Aiming tubes were fitted to the guns to save wear and cost. This case is for the aiming tube of a 15 inch gun on HMS Hood; they fired a small shell at a scaled down target. Donor, Commander Charles G (Bunty) Palmer CG, DSO, MID, served aboard HMS Hood for one month in 1934. During WW2 he served with the New Zealand Division, Royal Navy, and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Commander.
