"As a means of raising funds for the provision of comforts for sick and wounded New Zealand soldiers in the base hospitals, the Girls' Realm Guild has organised a fete of the allied nations, which will be held in the Town Hall on September 24 and 25. The guild is an unsectarian society, which was founded in 1900 in connection with the Girls' Realm Magazine, and the present activity of the Auckland guild is in fulfilment of one of its objects, to relieve suffering and to supply means for restoring health to the sick. The enterprise of the guild in undertaking the raising of funds for expenditure in the base hospitals has been approved by the Patriotic and War Relief Association, the executive of which is represented by two of its members on the committee of the bazaar. Preparations for the fete have been energetically pursued for several months past, and the fund has already been established by means of lectures and other entertainments. The committee has secured the use of both the main hall and the concert chamber for two days, the City Council having promised to refund the usual rental charges. The main hall will be occupied by a series of stalls, decorated with devices symbolical of the allied nations, and of the British Dominions as follows:— Great Britain, children s clothes, plain sewing, and linen goods; France, sweets; Belgium, books, stationery, leather goods, soldiers' gift boxes Russia, tea and refreshments; Servia, produce of all kinds and home-made preserves; Montenegro, gift stall; Japan, flower and pot plants; Italy, novelty and art stall; New Zealand, home-made cakes; Australia, woollen goods; Canada, ice cream. and cool drinks; India and Egypt, box stall and Eastern goods; South Africa, shooting gallery and side-shows. An attractive programme of entertainments will be given each day in the concert chamber under the direction of Miss Fenton, and in the main hall there will be dancing by pupils of Miss Cecil Hall and Miss Daphne Knight. Among those who have given assistance to the committee in various ways are the Kauri Timber Company and the Auckland Sawmillers' Association, who have donated timber; students of the Technical College, who are making, and will erect, stalls; Mr. W. H. Hazard, use and erection of shooting gallery; Grafton Artillery Band, Technical School Band, and Mr. Marriage's orchestra, music; Miss Hill, Otamatea; Mrs. Woodhead, Otamatea; Mrs. G. Lennell, Batley; Mrs. Jackman, Whakapirau; Mrs. A. Colbeck, Whakapirau; Mrs. Bischoff, Waiuku; and Mrs. Wilson, Papakura."
