    six-pointed bronze star; ring suspension; with ribbon

    obverse: in centre the Royal cypher GRI with VI below; the cypher is surmounted by a crown superimposed on a circlet which bears medal title: THE AFRICA STAR

    reverse: plain

    ribbon: pale buff with a central red stripe and two narrow stripes, one of dark blue, the other of light blue (colours are symbolic of the desert, the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force)
