    obverse: coinage head of King George V with the legend GEORGIUS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:

    reverse: naked figure of St. George on horseback facing right. The horse is 6/1228 Pte Eric Leslie Desmond Lees, New Zealand Provost Corps, NZEF trampling on an eagle shield and cross bones symbolic of death; above the horse’s head is the sun, symbolic of victory. Around the edge are the dates, 1914 and 1918

    6/1128 Private Eric Leslie Desmond Lees, Canterbury Infantry Battalion.

    Eric Lees embarked with the Main Body NZEF on 16 October 1914 as a Private (service number 6/1128) with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion. In [1919] he was transferred as a Corporal into the NZ Provost Corps (service number 11-1228A) and in this role was awarded the Military Service Medal for services rendered with the Armies in France & Flanders (LG 3 June 1919, p6919), and the Medaille d'Honneur avec glaives en Bronze for “distinguished service during the course of the campaign” (LG 1 June 1920 p6034).
