Edmund Leonard Goldsmith, enlisted with the New Zealand Medical Corps in the Auckland Military District and embarked for Suez with the 7th Reinforcements on 9 October 1915. He served briefly on Gallipoli, was hospitalised at the NZ General Hospital, Pont de Koubbeh in February 1916, before embarking for service on the Western Front. He was wounded on the Somme, 16th September 1916 and was invalided back to New Zealand, circa May 1917.
