  • Description

    Tairiiri. Fan. Composite tairiiri woven from kikau ou (young coconut leaf) with dyed-red overlaid strands of apuraka (giant swamp taro), dyed-red kiriau (hibiscus fibre) akaververe (fringe), attached to a shaped mauranga (handle) rakau (wooden). Plaited commencement at centre base. The blade is in shape of an inverted triangle. Blade is decorated along the top of the blade with dyed-red overlaid strands of apuraka. Top edge of blade is flat.

    Blade is attached to shaped mauranga rakau and lashed at the centre base of the blade with light-brown cotton thread. Thread extends upwards from the centre base of the blade to the centre middle of the blade and tied to the top of the mauranga.
