cot

human history
  • Description

wooden cot, kauri, turned posts. solid frame with removable base.

This cot was made by William August Jessen in the late 1800s. William was 12 years old when his family arrived from Denmark, landing in Auckland and then moving on to Mauriceville - to a 10 acre property covered in bush, not the clear farmland they had expected. This cot was made by William for his children out of a kauri tree from that estate.

The cot has been passed down through the Jessen family, and has been well-loved and used.
