    Adze (English)

  • Description

    Toki. Adze. Tool used for multiple purposes including carving wooden objects. Carved from toka (stone). Broken in two, glued back together. Triangular cross-section. Cutting edge is chipped, dull. Bevel is slightly concave towards cutting edge, ground into a slight incline. The adze is broken in two and glued back together at a point just above the bevel apex. Blade is slighly concave across its face. Slight shoulder above the blade.

    butt is slightly plished, pecking still evident. Poll end is unfinished, rough. Overall surface treatment has had some polish. Grey in colour. Purchase of the Edward Earle Vaile Trust Fund in 1947 from the collection of L. Moncrieff Nutt.
