    Stone pounder (English)

  • Description

    Reru. Pounder. Used for pounding food or ingredients for producing dyes. Carved from a single piece of keho/morevai (stalactite). Simple grip formed at the head of the pounder. Body of the pounder is conical in shape (narrow at the neck and gradually expanding till widest at base). A big loss of material at base, large piece broken off. Very little pounding surface left. Beige colour. Attributed to Mangaia, Cook Islands.
