Bilum production is one of the few opportunities for women to participate in the cash economy in Papua New Guinea. The iconography on full display on the bilums have increasingly come to reflect peoples political, cultural and religious affiliations. One of these bilums has the PNG post independence crest and the other typical aspects which points to West Papua origins.
