Charles Sutton - Established Eden Cres, 1867

    Sodawater. Lemonade, and Cordial Manufacturer

Charles Sutton bought the Eden Crescent aerated water and cordial manufactory circa 1867 from Alexander Wilkie who had established the factory circa 1855. It was close to town and the nearby Wai Ariki stream provided a good water supply. In fact there were two springs - one supplying mineral water and the other with natural carbonated water was good for soda water.

In 1870 he advertised in addition to his own product, Ginger Wine, Quinine Wine and Townsend's and Buchan's Sarsparilla.

Sutton had earlier worked for Brown and Campbell as cellarman at their wine and spirit store in Shortland Street. He operated the Eden Cres. Business until bought out by John Grey in 1873.
