    Whale tooth (English)

  • Description

    Tabua. Consisting of a tovuto (sperm whale)'s tooth. The tabua is curved in shape consisting of a root end tapering to a pointed end, ovoid in cross-section, with a hollow cavity. The tabua is yellow-brown in overall colour, and of high-polish. There are ridges from the root end to the centre, with dark-brown coloured crevices. There is a hole drilled through the pointed end, as well as through the root end.

    A silver/grey coloured cotton cord is looped through the hole at the pointed end.
