    Taona n riri. Waist ornament. This is a woven accessory worn upon te riri (skirt). This is one is of a larger size . It is made from te ira (pandanus leaf). The fibre is pale yellow in colour. Singular pinnules of te ira have been split to feature an end of narrow pinnules that have been woven with neighbouring pinnules to form an angled plain woven band for the base of the sash. The selvedges for the pinnules that have been left whole in width.

    Their ends stand outright with a cut end that is similar in shape to that of a swallows tail. Altogether, they create a waist ornament that forms the shape of a semi-circle when laid flat. The outright ends give the appearence of a serrated border.
