  • Description

crucifix with leather pouch and faux-leather backed devotional aid collected from an unidentified convent in the vicinity of Messines by Cpl W. Moth, 5th Dragoon Guards, 1st Cavalry Regt. Crucifix is mother-of-pearl & silver.

The fabric-based devotional item features appliqued holy pictures and objects, including St Thérèse of Lisieux, Our Lady of Lourdes and images relating to the Sacred Heart. The purple text is the short prayer, 'Cease, the S. (Sacred) Heart of Jesus is with me!' The orange and gold coloured item may contain a second class relic such as fabric that has been placed on the tomb of a saint and is then cut up into small pieces. This devotional object folds in three making it pocket-sized and light and easy to carry as an aid to prayer.
