Collection of Auckland Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira, 2019.26.11
Gift of Dr Michael Taylor
The YMCA logo on the medal is the 1896 version (the John 17:21 logo) but appears to retain the narrower X and P of the previous version, possibly for practical reasons. The components of the logo are:
- X (Chi) & P (Rho), the monogram of the name Christ (the first two letters of the name in Greek)
- over the monogram, the Spirit-Mind-Body triangle representing the three-fold nature of man which is the YMCA's focus for working with people, and within the triangle, the Bible open at the page John 17:21: 'That they all may be one.'
- the whole enclosed within two rings, the inner reinforcing the message of the verse regarding unity and fellowship, the outer representing the completeness of God's created order.
