Te mwae. Neck ornament. This is made up of three components: te nana (coconut shell discs), shells and te kora (cordage of coconut fibre). It is worn around the neck as part of body adornment. Worn by women and girls, who were adorned with te mwae particularly for the ruoia dances. Te mwae is made of alternating brown te nana (coconut shell) discs and off-white shell discs. These are strung on a kora with excess strings after knotting.

There are two strings of coconut shell discs, which are tied together at each end, whereas the tied ends are not joined together.
