Te katau te tumara. Waist ornaments of moon shells. This katau (waist ornament) is made from te ira (pandanus leaf), te tumara (moon shell; nautica), te kora (coconut sennit fibre cordage) and thick, dark brown two-ply cord. A long strip of te ira forms the base of te katau. It has been folded in half to add depth. Te tumara shells have been placed individually across te katau.

The ends of te katau te tumara have been finished in the form of three strand plaits. A thick dark brown cord has been twined as part of the plaits portrying its use internally across the band of te ira and then used to knot off the plaited ends. Te katau te tumara would be worn across the waist for ruoia dance by women and young girls.
