    Cutting tool (English)

    Te katati. A cutting tool fashioned from a portion of te raun shell. An 'L' shape is cut out in close proximity to the edge; each end is cut out to meet the rounded edge forming the body of cutting tool. The rounded edge is filed and sharpened to function as blade. The rest of the edges remains unsharpened allowing tool to be held. The exterior is of a dark grey colour showing soft lines of growth.

    The interior is smooth with a long, discoloured rupture stemmed from the bottom edge. Te katati (knife) was used for cutting te karewe (palm wine or toddy), a national Kiribati drink gathered from the coconut tree twice daily.
