human history
  • Other Name

    Hare (puppet name/character)

  • Description

puppet, glove, Hare, made by Raymond Boyce in 1959 for Road Safety Film by Pacific Films.

"The object is a hare glove puppet, real-life sized constructed from a copper wire frame padded with a fibrous material (appears to be cotton wadding) then covered with a variety of fabrics (brown wool, cream pile, and light brown coloured pile). An adhesive has been used to join the fabric seams. Animal hair has been used for the tail and around the round glass eyes, the inner ears are lined with leather, and the two front teeth are made from rectangular pieces of wood. At the base of the hare is black fabric for hiding the puppeteers hands. Two wire metal pieces covered with black ducting tape are attached to each leg allowing them to be moved. Round wooden beads (one covered with black ducting tape) are found at the end of each leg wire.

The object was made by Raymond Boyce in 1959 for use by Pacific Films (road safety film)." ( Akl Museum object examination and treatment record, 1999)
