    Trolling lure shank (English)

  • Description

Rabatan te kaneati. Trolling lure shank. This rabatan (fishing lure shank) is cut from the mid-section of te bwaeao (pearl shell) from the hinge to the lip. A perforation is drilled through the thickest point of the rabatan, located at the hinge end. The rabatan is rectangular in general shape which is ground and reduced at both ends, with a pointed apex at the hinge end.

The rabatan is curved in profile with high sheen and iridescent colour, light but then transitioning to a darker maroon towards the base end where the lure point would be lashed.
