Kai ni katebe

human history
  • Other Name

    Arrow (English)

  • Description

Kai ni katebe. Arrow. This arrow is made from wood and features a long, thin shaft that once had a fish bone point. This point or arrowhead was lashed to the shaft with string and bound with gum from the Itai tree however now only the string and gum remain as well as a small cavity where the fish bone point used to be.

At the opposite end of the shaft, there is a nock, which is a small curved groove or notch that has been carved into the wood, presumably to allow the arrow to be drawn onto a bow for launching. The grain of the wood features long stripes of alternating shades of light and dark brown across the length of the shaft. The shaft itself is smooth in surface.
