  • Description

    Te ikuiku. Pounder. This is a small wooden pounder. It has been carved entirely from one piece of wood. It is made of ngea (pemphis acidula). It comprises of a small cylindrical handle and then protrudes into a bulbous mallet part. The edging around the mallet is burnished from contact. The wood is dark brown and has been polished over time. This te ikuiku is small in size as it was initially used for pounding food for children.
