    Dancing skirt (English)

  • Description

    Titi tao. Dancing skirt. Titi tao are worn by women and are specifically from the island of Nanumea. This titi is made from dyed tuaakie (bottom layer of pandanus leaf) strips as well as paka (thick strips of decorated tuaakie). The bottom layer is made up of medium strips of maroon-dyed tuaakie strips. The top layer consists of wider strips with black, yellow, and natural coloured tuaakie cut and sewn on as decoration.

    Both layers of tuaakie are looped and wrapped onto a long rolled twine/string.
