    Waist ornament of coconut shell discs

    Te taona n riri

  • Description

    Te katau. Waist ornament. This ornamental belt is worn around the waist atop a woman's dance skirt as part of costume adornment called taona n riri. This katau consists of double strands that are strung with discs of te nana (coconut shells) on fibre cord of te kora (coconut sennit) with seven te buuro (shells) spaced at intervals along one of the strands.
