    Shell currency (English)

  • Description

    Shell currency. This long strand of shell currency consists of small pieces of white te nouo (conus shell) and dark brown te nana (coconut shell) ground into small discs drilled at their centre and strung in an alternating monochrome pattern on a length of medium brown cord of te kora (coconut sennit), tied off at each end. A second strand of shells in a similar arrangement is looped five times along the base strand.

    It has been arranged into a Neck ornament ornament however has broken loose. The pieces are 6mm in diameter.
