    Whale's split teeth neck ornament (Fijian)

  • Description

    Wasekaseka. Whale tooth necklace consisting of thirty-two segments of teeth that have been split and carved from whale teeth. Each segment is long and narrow, and has been bored at the base, and is with a pointed tip. The base of the Wasekaseka consists of a magimagi (coconut sennit) braids that are threaded through the bored bases, with the ends forming the ties. There is a short beige coloured piece of plant fibre thread that is knotted to an end.

    The teeth are honey yellow in overall colour. A segment near the centre is chipped at the pointed end.
