    flute (English)

  • Description

    flute. nguru. Central bore hole, no evidence of fingerholes. Surface ground smooth. Circular striations inside bored hole, also reddish orange colour, either smearing of red kokowai or burnt. Some broken edges are burnished, possibly indicating some kind of use after breakage. Sampled by thin sectioning, no records available (not carried out by S. Best, pers. comm). Width at wide end 26 mm, width of chamber at wide end 19 mm Fine grained sedimentary stone.

    Both ends missing, body chipped.
