    small, tiered wooden boxes. painted decoration in purple, white and green. for containing good-luck candies for annual festival of the Shiba Daijingu, a Tokyo Shrine.

    -at the annual festival of the Shiba Daijingu, a Tokyo shrine, good-luck candies are sold in tiered boxes of thin and crudly finished wood flecked with water-coloured paints and tied with rice straw. the design is naive but striking, and there is a decidedly festive quality about it.
