"Expatriate New Zealand artist Robin White wanted to create a collection of images relating to the stay of Brigid, daughter of her friend Claudia Pond Eyley. Both had visited her on Tarawa in the summer of 1984. The resulting handmade book of woodblock prints reflects the rigours of the atoll and reclaims the meanings of Brigid's everyday experience in the patterns, colours and symbols of the Pacific - the shells she collected, her woven hat, places she visited. With is rough hewn intensity, tactile folded panels and measured prose, this artist's book is an exquisite meditation on friendship and Gilbertese culture"--Text which accompanied book when displayed in the exhibition "Tip of the Iceberg".
