At head of title: New Zealand. One of the letters is signed: John Beecham. "The Committee expressed its concern about the apparent misinterpretations of the provisions of the Treaty in respect of Māori rights in dispatches from Earl Grey (dated 23 Dec. 1846) and Sir George Grey (7 April 1847); a lengthy restatement of the views of Hobson, the British Government and the missionaries.

Earl Grey's letter of 13 April 1848 reassured the Committee that there had been no change in policy and Beecham on behalf of the Society accepted the Minister's statement in his acknowledgement of 27 April"--Bagnall 5983.
