A dictionary of modern Maori

documentary heritage
  • Description

In the Maori to English section the choice of words for this dictionary is based on Nga Mahi a Nga Tupuna, Te Paipera Tapu, the Whare Kura readers, the Rangatahi series, articles in Te Ao Hou and Te Maori, and the weekly news bulletins in Maori.

In the English to Maori section the choice is based on words most commonly used by native Maori speakers. Thus many words of European origin appear, but they have been assimilated into a living language and as such have to be noted by anyone who wishes to be understood today.--preface
