  • Subject Notes
A reprint of eight tracts forming a series of short sermons in Maori, written by the Rev. (afterward Archdeacon) Robert Maunsell. These were printed by the Church Mission Press, probably at Paihia, Bay of Islands, before the removal of that Press in 1845, to Purewa near Auckland. A subsequent edition was printed in 1846 at Purewa.
The reprint is from a volume in the possession of Mr. George Henry Davies, of Karori, Wellington, late translator to the Native Department. A committee, consisting of Mr. George Henry Davies, Mr A. J. Rutherfurd (Clerk of Committees of the House of Representatives), and the Hon. A. T. Ngata, raised through private subscribers the funds necessary for the publication of one thousand copies, and saw the matter through the press. It is intended that the proceeds of the sale of the book shall be devoted to printing other matter of value and interest to the Maori. Wellington, 14 June, 1911. -- Preface
