The cover design : based on the rafter patern called 'Puhoro" which is said to symbolise speed, the curling waves and the forwrd moving canoe. The artist was Mrs Freda Kawharu. Royalties from the sale of this book are to be paid to St Mary's Memorial Church, Tikitiki, Gisborne, East Coast. A.T. Mahuika was Lecturer in Maori Language at Massey University.

"Apirana Tuahae Kaukapakapa Mahuika was born and raised at Whakawhitira and attended Te Aute College and Auckland University, graduating with a BA. He was awarded the Elizabeth II postgraduate scholarship and went to Sydney University to gain his MA. He majored in anthropology, sociology and education with a Diploma in Theology and was an ordained Anglican clergyman. . .
