Evan Graham Turbott joined the staff of Auckland Museum in 1937 as Assistant Zoologist and was appointed Ornithologist and Entomologist in 1946. In 1957 he left the Museum to become Assistant Director at Canterbury Museum, Christchurch. He returned to Auckland Museum in 1964 as Director, where he remained until his retirement in 1979.
