    One letter of sympathy, to Haggart's Mother, is dated 16th October 1918 and was sent by Chaplain George Trevor Robson, Chaplain Class IV (Captain), New Zealand Chaplains Department. The 2nd letter of sympathy (also dated 16th October 1918) gives a further account of the death of Haggart stating "Your son's platoon was cut off from the rest of the Battalion by the German machine gun fire and your son was afterwards found to have been killed."

  • Subject Notes
    Haggart embarked as Private with the 1st Canterbury Infantry Regiment, later joining D Company 4th Battalion Canterbury Regiment. He left New Zealand on 13 October 1917, bound for Liverpool, England onboard the troopship Corinthic. He was killed in action on 29th September 1918 and is buried at Villers Hill British Cemetery, Villers-Guislain, Nord, France.
