  • George Isaac Bourne was born at Whanganui in 1875. In about 1902 he began working for the Weekly News. In 1909 his first montage was published in the Weekly News Christmas number. During the 1920s he flew with and photographed the Walsh Brothers Flying School, Auckland, being one of the first aerial photographers in the Southern Hemisphere to do so. He was best known for his studies of Maori life and his experimental montage photography, but was also an occasional contributor of short stories and descriptive articles to English, American and Australian magazines and journals, using at times the nom de plume 'Hori Poni'. He died in 1924 at his home in Devonport, Auckland.
