Collection includes a fabric-covered sketchbook of drawings belonging to Grace.

    A book has been complied and written by Alice's grand daughter Margaret Hardwick Smith "Goodbye Dearest Girl : WW1 Letters and Sketches - Dick Grace to Alice Crump 1915 - 1918". The book details their relationship during and after the war with a transcript of every letter and pictures from the sketch book Richard sent to Alice while he was in Somme, France.

    Richard Fairfax Tukino Grace was born in 1895, at Pukawa, Lake Taupo. His father was Lawrence Marshall Grace, son of missionary Reverend Thomas Samuel Grace and his mother was Te Kahui Grace, daughter of Ngati Tuwharetoa Ariki, Paramount chief Horonuku Te Heuheu Tukino IV. Alice Rose Crump was born in 1895 in Palmerston North. The only child of Thomas and Mary Crump. Her father was a borough councillor and later was elected as Mayor of Eltham. Richard and Alice met when they were young teenagers on holidays with family at Ocean Bay. Richard attended Nelson Boys College while Alice attended Nelson College for Girls and the relationship developed and continued throughout the First World War.
