Provenance Details
Provenance: Evidence in the form of two pieces of correspondence, dated 13 March and 9 April 1912 respectively, from Augustus Hamilton, Director of the Dominion Museum, Wellington, to Thomas Cheeseman, Curator of Auckland Museum, indicates quite clearly that Buchanan's notebook was loaned. Subject Notes
John Buchanan, F.L.S., botanist, artist and draughtsman, was born on 13 October 1819, at Levenside, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. He emigrated to New Zealand on 2 July 1851 per the barque 'Columbus', arriving at Port Chalmers in February, 1852. He died on 18 October 1898, at Wellington, aged 79.
