Rules for the National Council of Women's Literature Committee

  • Description

    I. The Literature Committee shall consist of a Local Secretary to be appointed by each affiliated society or Local Council and a chairman to be appointed by the Nation Council in Annual [general] meeting assembled.

    II. It shall be the duty of each Secretary

    (a) to inform circles of four readers, within our outside her society and to supply each reader, on payment of 5 per annum, with a book on or about 1st January 1905.

    (b) to communicate with her chairman on forming such circles, enclosing list of names of members;

    (c) to see that such books are passed around on the first days of Feb, March, and April; to gather in the books and distribute a new consignment on or about the first day of May; to see that these are passed around on the 1st days of June, July, and August; to gather in and send out a fresh supply on 1st September, and to see that these, in next turn, are [assed around on the first days of Oct, Nov, and December; to gather them in once more, with annual subscriptions before sending out a fresh supply;

    (d) to forward such sets of four books by post or otherwise to other secretaries, or to return them to the chairman of Committee, as may be arranged;

    (e) to forward subscriptions towards close of the year (less portage) to chairman of Committee (who shall also act as Treasurer) to be devoted by her, after paying expenses (portage etc) to the purchaser of books for circulation and of pamphlet literature for distribution.

    III. It shall be the duty of the Chairman to supply each secretary with circulating literature to the extent of her demand, on the first days of Jan, May, and September.

    IV. The Chairman shall finish an annual report and balance sheet.

    V. A suggestion book shall be placed on the table during annual meeting, in which members shall be invited to enter the names of desirable books or magazines, the choice of which, if necessary, may be decided by ballot.

    VI. The Chairman is authorised to request any suitable lady to form reading circles and appoint secretaries in any places as yet unrepresented by societies affiliated to the Council.
