    Regarding his distaste for the Colonel's gifting of wine (port) and tobacco to 'Heke.' Mr. Bateman goes on to share with Mr. Williams that he was informed by Mr. Clendon the President Magistrate that the Governor wrote a letter in Mr. Williams favour to the Church Missionary Society. Excerpt from the text reads: '...he the Govn' had written a strong letter in your favour to that body (Hah! Say I).' Finally Mr.

    Bateman shares that we will be relocating to Auckland for six weeks leave and that Mr. Williams should write to him there.
