Thomas Chapman immigrated to New Zealand in 1830 with his wife, Anne. He is said to have learnt Te Reo Maori quickly and with skill, a skill he used to translate large sections of the Old Testament. Chapman and his wife founded the mission station at Rotorua where they stayed for most of their lives.
