    Typescript copy. Contains Governor Grey's reaction to the Church Missionary Society's dismissal of Archdeacon Henry Williams, for his decision to maintain his land holdings for the benefit of his family. Grey writes of a baptismal ceremony for a dying chief. He also writes of a draft of the Constitution (not physically included) for the Church of England in New Zealand.

    Finally he introduces the prospect of a Native School in New Zealand and asks that the provision of costs for such an effort be considered.

    Sir George Grey (1812-1898) was appointed Governor to New Zealand in 1845. Throughout his career he faced dwindling government funds and feuding amongst settlers and Maori, primarily over land. Following his first term, he was anointed a Knight Commander of the Order of Bath
