Letter from Catherine Heathcote to Jane Williams, 19 July 1842

documentary heritage
  • Description

Regarding their niece Lydia's birthday, which she celebrated abroad. Catherine writes of the Missionary and Bible meetings she managed at Southwell, the pupils she expected back at her school, her visit to Janes mother in Nottingham, and of hearing Mr Davies preach. Further, Catherine mentions that she had engaged a new Swiss governess and that she celebrated the Marshes wedding on July 7, 1842.

Finally, an interesting comment made in this letter is that Catherine believed a man named Edward kept his daughters too secluded by not allowing them to go anywhere without him.
