  • Arthur Edward MacDonogh (or McDonogh) was born about 1810 in Ireland. In April, 1845, he was appointed Adjutant of the Wellington militia and remained with the unit until its demobilisation five months later in September. In July, 1846, he was involved in leading a militia party overland to attack Te Rangihaeata's pa at Pauatahanui, and was present at the subsequent engagement at Battle Hill, Horokiwi, on August, 6th. In 1852 MacDonogh committed suicide before an investigation into his misappropriation of public money whilst head of the New Munster police could be launched.
