    William Gilbert Puckey (1805-1878) was born in 1805 at Penryn Cornwall, England. He travelled to New Zealand as a boy, recruited for the mission as one of the foremost translators of Te Reo Maori. Puckey was involved in clarifying the translation of the Treaty of Waitangi, and took part in translating the Book of Common Prayer. He died at Kaitaia on March 27, 1878.
