    Regarding the outbreak of illness at the school in Turanga, keeping Williams from visiting the Bishop at Auckland. In response, Bishop Selwyn offered 150 pounds from the Board of Education as a loan for the 'maintenance of the scholars at Tauranga.' Finally, Bishop Selwyn briefly writes on the 'effects of war' reaching the east coast.

    George Augustus Selwyn (1809-1878) was the first Anglican Bishop of New Zealand. His career and relationship with the Williams Family was blighted by his injudicious support of Governor Grey, during investigations into missionaries accused of acquiring land illegally.
