Letter from Archdeacon Henry Williams to William Williams, August 10, 1863

documentary heritage
  • Description

Regarding the positive proceedings of the recent Synod, and the tensions in Tauranga and the Waikato. Williams writes of Wiremu Tamihana's declaration that Archdeacon Brown and other settler families were to leave, and pens his thoughts on how those feelings may have spread into other iwi such as Ngapuhi. He goes on to write of the events dampening his fortieth year in New Zealand, such as the riots in Wellington, and the threat of war lurking at Auckland's backdoor.
