Next, Mrs Turners confinement at Wangaroa. Then the trouble at [Rangihoe[?] and the Wangaroa attack. Marianne also writes of her concerns regarding the H.M.

S Wellington, a ship bound for Norfolk Island, which had been taken prisoner by 60 desperados. Marianne shares how a group of Maori had come to her family to ask their opinion on these 'white thieves' and to declare their intention to take the vessel. Two whaling ships, however, began firing upon the vessel and with the wind prevailing into the harbour it had no chance of escape. Henry Williams was called to 'control' [sic] those at Kororareka while the prisoners were landed. Mr Buchanan, an engineer headed to Norfolk, accompanied Henry home for their evening service and shared his story of the capture and suffering on board.
