Letter from Marianne Williams to Samuel Williams, March 23, 1845

documentary heritage
  • Description

Regarding the aftermath of the Battle of Kororareka. Marianne writes of the meeting of a war council, of Pomare preventing Kawitis waka from landing, and that they expected there to be a battle between Hone Heke and Tamati Waka Nene. Marianne goes on to write of the Easter services put on by her husband Henry Williams, that were attended by Pomare who had come to excuse his plundering and double dealing.

She also writes a brief line on the allegations of treason brought against Henry Williams. Finally, she asks her son to pass on the news to all who show interest in their family, and writes of an enclosed a note for Samuel from Mr Burrows.
